fuckyeanba: Oklahoma City Thunder VS. Dallas Mavericks Preview There were times earlier in the year when the Thunder really seemed to have figured everything out. Russell Westbrook was shooting more, but was hitting most of those shots; Kevin Durant was playing defense, sharing the ball and still scoring enough to lead the league in scoring for the 3rd consecutive year (thanks Kobe!); James Harden has solidified his status as the best bench player in the league. Unfortunately for Thunder fans, April was not kind to the upstarts hoping to take the final step towards NBA immortality. They played close to .500 ball for the entirety of April, and—because of it—lost out on the top seed in the west. Then there was Harden’s awful concussion, and now things are just as ambiguous as they were before the season started. This is a rematch of last year’s Western Conference Finals. The difference this year is the Dallas team just eked into the playoffs after a dismal start to their first season defending their title. Tyson Chandler is gone, and in his place, Dallas has…Brendan Heyward and Ian Mahinmi. That doesn’t bode well for Dallas’ defense of their title. Dirk is still Dirk, and he’ll be tough to stop throughout the series. But Jason Kidd is another year older, Roddy Beaubois still isn’t a top-flight point guard, and they have Vince Carter on their team (always a bad sign). Don’t forget, Lamar Odom was a bust as well. Sure Dallas will make this series interesting, but the Thunder have higher goals in mind, and won’t sleep on the defending champs in the first round. It won’t be easy, but the Thunder believe an NBA title is their goddamn manifest destiny. I’m not sure they’re wrong, and they’ll knock off the defending champs and exorcise last year’s playoff loss at the same time.
